생약을 함유한 짜먹는 어린이 종합영양제인 ‘도담도담 트리플비타액’을 새롭게 출시했다고 13일 밝혔다.
도담도담 트리플비타액은 어린이 성장 발육에 도움을 줄 수 있비달리스타는 생약 성분 3종이 함유된 종합 어린이 영양제이다. 제품에 함유된 생약 성분 3종은 홍삼, 황기, 작약으로 성장 발육 뿐만 아니라, 면역조절 활성에 도움을 준다.
특히 면역기능에 필수적인 아연과 신경 근육 유지에 필요한 마그네슘을 더해 어린이의 정상적인 발육을 돕는데 초점을 맞췄다. 또한 성장기 필수비타민이 포함되었다. 비타민B군 4종은 ‘티아민’, ‘리보플라빈’, ‘니코틴산아미드’와 ‘피리독신’으로 체내 에너지생성을 도운다.

건강에 대한 관심이 증가하면서 많은 사람들이 영양제를 복용하고 있다. 실제 질병관리청이 발표한 '식이보충제 복용현황' 통계에 따르면 2020년 기준 식이보충제를 복용한 비율은 44.9%였다.
식이보충제 복용률은 2018년 32.1%, 2019년 41.5%, 2020년 44.9%로 꾸준히 상승하는 추세다. 여기서 식이보충제란 일상 식사에서 부족한 영양소를 보충하거나 건강 증진을 위해 복용하는 제품이다. 식이보충제 종류별로 살펴보면 종합비타민을 가장 많이 복용하고 있었다.
그렇다면 의사, 약사 등 건강 전문가들이 가장 많이 챙겨 먹는 영양제는 무엇일까. 설문 조사 결과 1위는 역시 종합비타민이 차지했다. 대부분의 건강 전문가들은 종합비타민은 현대인의 영양결핍을 보완할 수 있는 최소한의 보조제라고 생각하여 꾸준히 챙겨 먹고 있다고 답했다.

직장인, 학생 = 콜린과 이노시톨

구는 16일 구청장 접견실에서 대전시약사회 동구분회의 어린이 영양제 지원 기탁식을 개최했다.
구와 대전시약사회 동구분회는 지난 2020년 하나 더 나눔 '몸 튼튼 맘 튼튼' 협약을 맺고 매년 취약계층 가정에 어린이 영양제를 지원하고 있으며 현재까지 총 1088세대가 지원받았다.
올해도 17개의 동구 지역 약국이 협약에 참여해 취약계층 가정에 영양제를 지원할 예정이다.
벨벳이 약효보호용 심장영양제 ‘웰케어 하트(WelCare Heart)’를 출시했다고 6일 밝혔다. 웰케어 하트는 심장약 처방약제의 약효보호와 공통 부작용 해소를 목적으로 개발됐다.

하지만 실제로 위산 분비를 촉진하는 것은 사료만 아니라 단백질, 당을 함유한 투약보조제, 간식, 츄루 등의 음식물이 포함되며, 반려동물에게 약을 먹일 때 투약보조제, 간식, 츄루 등의 음식물과 먹이면 위산이 분비돼 약효가 감소할 가능성이 크다.
웰케어는 심장병 처방약을 먹이는 것으로 끝나는 것이 아니라 약효가 카마그라 제대로 작용하는지에 대한 고민도 필요하다며, 국내와 미국에서 특허를 취득한 웰케어 하트의 겔 제형은 약물과 위산의 접촉을 차단해 위산으로부터 약물을 보호하기 때문에 심장병 처방약을 포함한 기능성 성분을 효과적으로 섭취할 수 있다고 설명했다.

한 소비자가 혈관에 영양제 투여 후 피부손상이 발생하자 의료진의 과실을 주장했고, 반면에 의료진은 환자의 책임으로 떠넘겼다.
재활치료를 위해 요양병원에서 입원치료를 받던 A씨는 5월 20일 우측 발등의 혈관을 통해 영양제를 투여 받았는데, 이틀 후 주사부위에 수포와 상처가 발견됐다.
의료진은 수포와 상처에 대해 소독하고 항생제 연고를 발랐으나 상처가 점차 악화되자, 같은 해 5월 25일부터는 경구항생제 투여 및 소독 처치를 진행했고, 같은 해 6월 2일부터는 종합병원 정형외과 전문의에게 자문을 구해 정맥 내 항생제 투여를 계획했다.
6월 2일 치과진료를 위해 요양병원에서 외출한 A씨는 발등 치료를 위해 타 병원 2곳을 방문했고, 의사로부터 수술이 필요하다는 소견을 들었다.
그 날 A씨는 요양병원을 퇴원한 후 한 병원에 입원해 우측 발등의 피부결손 진단 하에 변연절제술을 받았다.
A씨 가족은 요양병원 의료진이 영양제 투여 시 요구되는 주의 의무를 다하지 않아 혈관 외 누출이 발생했다고 주장했다.
또한 염증 등이 발생했음에도 보호자에게 5일 동안 알리지 않은 채 적절한 조치도 취하지 않았다며 A씨 손해에 대해 피해보상을 요구했다.
이에 대해 의료진은 영양제 투여 당시 A씨가 주사부위를 왼쪽 발로 비비는 모습을 보여 해당 부위를 붕대로 덮어주는 등 적절히 조치했으나 A씨가 지속적으로 투여 부위를 비비는 등 물리력을 가해 수액이 혈관 밖으로 누출된 것으로 보인다고 주장했다.
이후에도 위와 같은 접촉이 반복돼 정맥명 및 피부감염이 발생한 것으로 보고, 5월 22일 상처 부위를 적절히 치료했으나 고령인 A씨의 전신상태 쇠약과 치매로 인한 인지저하 등의 이유로 호전되지 않은 것으로 판단된다며 A씨 가족의 요구를 수용할 수 없다고 주장했다.
한국소비자원은 의료진에게 일부 책임이 있다고 판단하고 병원 측은 A씨에게 치료비 20%와 위자료를 지급하라고 결정했다.
병원 의료진이 A씨에게 정맥주사로 투여한 영양제는 지방 및 아미노산제의 고농도 영양제로서 혈관 밖으로 누출될 경우 유액성분으로 인해 조직 괴사, 혈관 수축 등의 부작용이 발생할 수 있다.
따라서 의료진은 정맥 주사 부위에 붕대를 감아 놓는 등의 조치를 취해 주사관이 빠져나오지 않도록 주의해야 하며 병원 의료진 또한 이와 같은 부작용을 인지해 조치를 취한 것으로 보인다.
그런데 A씨는 고령인데다가 인지 장애도 있었기 때문에 다른 환자에 비해 혈관 누출이 발생할 가능성이 높았고, 병원 측 또한 영양제의 혈관 외 누출 원인에 대해 "A씨가 정맥 주사를 놓는 도중 반대편 발로 주사 부위를 비비는 모습을 보였다"고 진술한 점에 비춰 볼 때, 의료진은 주사액의 혈관 외 누출이 발생할 가능성이 매우 높음을 충분히 예견했던 것으로 보인다.
전문 의료기관인 병원으로서는 주사 부위의 동통, 발적, 팽윤 등을 관찰하며 정맥 주사 부위를 변경하거나 A씨가 지속적으로 주사 부위를 비비는 모습이 관찰될 때 간병인에게 주사 부위 접촉이 지속되지 않도록 주의시키는 등 적극적인 조치를 취했어야 한다.
그럼에도 의료진은 위와 같은 적절한 조치를 취하지 않은 채 주사 부위에 붕대를 감아두고 정맥 주사 투여를 지속했고, 달리 적절한 조치를 취했다고 인정할 만한 사정도 보이지 않으므로 병원 측은 A씨가 입은 손해에 대해 배상할 책임이 있다.
한편, A씨 보호자는 영양제의 혈관 외 누출 이후 병원의 부적절한 처치로 인해 상처가 악화됐다고 주장하나, 의료진은 주사 부위의 부종 및 발적 등을 확인한 후 소독하고 항생제 연고를 발랐으며, 이러한 조치에도 불구하고 상처가 악화되자 경구항생제를 처방하고 소독하는 등 적절히 조치한 것으로 확인된다.
다만, A씨의 나이, 기왕질환 등으로 인한 면역 기능 저하가 손해의 확대한 원인인 것으로 보여 A씨에게 발생한 모든 손해를 의료진에게 부담시키는 것은 형평의 원칙에 반하므로, 병원 측의 책임 범위를 20%로 제한한다.
병원 측은 A씨에게 혈관 외 누출로 인한 기왕치료비의 20%인 43만6116원과 위자료 50만 원을 합한 93만6000원(1000원 미만은 버림)을 지급해야 한다.

날 비(飛)에 모기 문(蚊)을 쓰는 비문증은 이름 그대로 눈앞에 모기 같은 것이 날아다니는 것처럼 느끼는 증상이다. 투명한 벌레나 먼지, 실, 거미줄 같은 것이 분명히 보이나 잡을 수 없고, 눈을 감아도 계속 보이기도 한다. 자꾸만 거슬리고 신경 쓰이는 비문증이 생겼을 때는 어떻게 대처해야 할까. 김용현 원장에게서 자세한 설명을 들어본다.
비문증 증상 다양하지만, 시력에 영향 주진 않아
날파리증이라고도 불리는 비문증은 사람에 따라 증상이 다르게 나타날 수 있습니다. 눈앞을 떠다니는 작은 조각들의 개수가 사람마다 다르고, 흰색으로 보이는 사람이 있는가 하면 검은색으로 보인다고 말하는 사람도 있습니다. 눈을 감은 상태에서 해당 증상이 나타날 수도 있고, 시선이 움직이는 방향으로 이물질이 계속 따라다니기도 합니다. 그러나 비문증이 생겼다고 해서 시력이 떨어지지는 않고, 불편감만 느끼는 경우가 많습니다.
비문증이 잘 발생하는 사람은
안구 내부는 투명하고 젤리 같은 물질인 유리체로 채워져 있습니다. 그런데 안구가 노화되면 젤리 같던 유리체가 액화되면서 유리체 안에 혼탁이 발생하거나 부유물이 생기게 돼 비문증이 발생합니다. 신체 노화를 겪고 있는 중·장년층에게서 비문증이 많이 발생하는 이유입니다. 고령 인구의 증가로 인해 비문증 환자수도 그만큼 증가하고 있지요.
그러나 최근에는 20~30대 젊은 층에서도 비문증이 적지 않게 발생합니다. 생활습관이 불규칙한데다 하루 종일 스마트폰과 컴퓨터 등 전자기기를 사용하면서 눈의 피로도가 올라가 안구 노화를 촉진하기 때문입니다. 더불어 고도근시라면 젊은 나이에도 비문증이 생길 수 있습니다.
평소 당뇨나 고혈압이 있는 사람, 당뇨가 있는 임산부에게 비문증이 생기면 눈 속 혈관에서 출혈이 생기거나 망막이 손상될 가능성이 있기에, 이분들은 비문증이 발생하면 안과에 즉시 내원하는 것이 좋습니다. 또, 눈에 강한 외부 충격이 가해지면 여러 안구 조직이 손상될 수 있는데요. 이때 외상 후 비문증이 생길 수 있습니다.
“평소 균형 잡힌 식사를 하고 적절한 운동을 하며 충분한 수면을 취하면 굳이 영양제를 복용할 필요가 없다. 만일 꼭 먹어야 한다면 의사나 약사와 상의하면 된다.”
구구절절 옳은 말이다. 문제는 “지금 내 모습과는 너무 달라서”라고 한숨 짓는 사람이 많다는 데 있다. 그렇다면 영양제는 먹어야 하나 말아야 하나. 전문가 집단에서도 찬성과 반대가 엇갈린다.
국립암센터국제암대학원대학교 명승권 대학원장은 메타분석(동일하거나 유사한 주제로 작성된 논문들을 객관적·계량적으로 종합 고찰)을 통해 시중에서 파는 영양제가 불필요하고 오히려 해가 되기도 한다는 ‘영양제 무용론(無用論)’을 늘 주장한다. 명 교수는 기고를 통해 “TV에 출연해 근거가 확립되지 않은 건강기능식품이나 치료법을 주장하는 이른바 ‘쇼 닥터’들이 비타민D 검사를 권유한다”면서 “하지만 최신 연구를 보면 일상적인 비타민D 검사는 매년 수억 달러를 낭비하는 것이며 비타민D 보충은 암, 심혈관질환, 골절의 위험성을 줄이지도 못하고 오히려 신장결석 위험성을 높인다”고 언급했다.
영양제 무용론 vs 유용론
명 교수의 주장에 동의하는 의료진도 꽤 많다. 미국의사협회저널(JAMA)은 지난해 “종합비타민과 단일 보충제가 심혈관질환이나 암에 효과적이라는 증거는 불충분하다”고 지적했다. 프레드 브로벤자 유타주립대 명예교수가 쓴 책 ‘영양의 비밀’은 인간이 어릴 때부터 영양을 섭취하기 위해 자연스레 몸에 익힌 기억과 지혜를 중시하지만 인위적인 영양제 투입에 대해서는 회의적 시각을 보인다.
서울대병원 가정의학과 박민선 교수는 “3~4년 전만 해도 영양제를 전혀 먹지 않았는데, 건강검진 때 비타민D 수준이 낮게 나와서 먹고 있다”면서 “하지만 다른 비타민이나 미네랄은 먹지 않고 있다”고 말했다. 박 교수는 “가볍게 먹는 일반적인 식사에도 대부분의 영양소가 1.5배 이상 들어 있다”면서 “제때 식사가 가능한 사람이라면 영양제를 꼭 먹을 필요는 없다”고 덧붙였다.
